PEAKS Collegiate Campus Celebrates Grand Opening

In celebration of the grand opening of PEAKS Collegiate Campus (a partnership between Livingstone Range School Division and Lethbridge Polytechnic), nearly 400 high school students explored the Mobile Field Study Lab as it toured southwestern Alberta on September 23, 2024.

The Lab will be an indispensable component of the PEAKS Collegiate Campus experience (at both PEAKS Campus in the Crowsnest Pass and the Mobile Lab), which provides students with a clear pathway into post-secondary education and careers in Environmental Science, including Environmental Assessment and Restoration, Natural Resource Compliance, and Renewable Resources Management.

"Today we celebrate innovation, partnership, and possibilities for students as we officially open PEAKS Collegiate Campus," said Lori Hodges, Chair of the LRSD Board of Trustees. "Working with our partners at Lethbridge Polytechnic, we are excited to bring world-class environmental science education to students in southern Alberta. Together we are preparing our students for their future, today."

Representatives from Lethbridge Polytechnic and Livingstone Range School Division talked with students about the dual credit pathways where students can earn both high school and post-secondary credits. With virtual and hands-on programming, students will have a distinct advantage for educational and career opportunities after high school.

Students who toured the lab were enthusiastic about its potential, as evidenced by these quotes:

  • "This up-close learning in the science field is super interesting."
  • "Dual credit is intriguing!"
  • "I'm definitely going to sign up!"

There are limited spots still available in PEAKS Collegiate Campus courses for Semester I this year, with a registration deadline of  October 1, 2024. Students can also apply now for Semester II programming at www.peakscampus.ca/peaks-collegiate-campus/apply
